Weekend Update - May 24th

  • He's the founder of The Paul Revere Society. He's a right-wing talk show host that even Bill O'Reilly thinks is a "smear merchant." He's Michael Savage, and he's an asshole.

  • p.m. carpenter discusses Hillary's latest gaff. "Hillary Clinton Downs the Political Hemlock."

  • FBI agents keeping a "war crimes file?" Here's a NYT article that I promise will make your skin crawl.

  • So McCain refutes megachurch Pastor John Hagee because of Hagee's stupid remarks. How nice. How hard would it be to elect an atheist president? Impossible.

  • Greg Palast reports that Hillary is replacing Bill as "first husband" with Kevin Costner. Seriously. Sort of.

  • Two Democratic senators have asked the Treasury Department to investigate allegations that Iraqi leaders have embezzled or misspent billions of U.S. tax dollars intended for the country's relief and reconstruction. That's BILLIONS.

  • In a hotel room in Brussels, the chief executives of the world’s top oil companies unrolled a huge map of the Middle East, drew a fat, red line around Iraq and signed their names to it.
The map, the red line, the secret signatures. It explains this war. It explains this week’s rocketing of the price of oil to $134 a barrel. Greg Palast swears he not making this up.

  • It turns out Ted Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor. We wish him all the best of luck while he receives the finest medicine and care money can buy. And we also wish we could all receive the same kind of health care he gets. Wouldn't that be nice?

From our friends at Alternet:
The Most Savage Shock Jock of Them All

Who is Michael Savage? On its surface the question seems obvious: he's a 66-year-old nationally syndicated conservative talk radio host whose program, The Savage Nation, airs five days a week from its home base of KNEW in San Francisco.

Now here's my question, the answer to which is no where to be found on Alternet or Malo Sombrero.

Who is Bernie Ward?
Bernie Ward (WAS) a liberal American talk radio host, most recently heard on KGO 810 AM in San Francisco. Ward, formerly billed by his station as "the lion of the left," was the host of both The Bernie Ward Show, a nightly news talk show that ran weekdays 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., and the three-hour GodTalk on Sunday mornings. In 2008, Ward admitted to distributing child pornography in a plea bargain with federal prosecutors. It was also discovered that, in 1978, Ward had two sexual misconduct complaints at a high school where Ward taught religion. The police investigation of Ward originated with a complaint from an internet chat partner named "Sexfairy2005," a housewife who was posing online as a dominatrix. According to the now unsealed police report, Ward sent pornographic pictures of children to the chat partner, who turned the chat logs as well as the pictures Ward sent her over to the police. In the chat logs (found here), Ward also describes inappropriate sexual activity WITH HIS OWN CHILDREN.
On May 8, 2008, Ward announced an agreement to plead guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography in exchange for the dropping of two additional counts of possession and distribution. In his plea agreement, Ward admits that he has transmitted child pornography "up to 150 times". Ward faces between five and nine years in prison at his sentencing on August 28, 2008. There were two sexual misconduct complaints against Ward in 1978 when he was a priest teaching religion at Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa, California. The complaints related to offering alcohol and drugs, and inappropriate touching of underaged girls.

Thanks for this equal time segment, in advance.

Excellent comeback, Jon. No matter how evil and ridiculous and sick and awful your right wing talk show hosts are, you can dredge up an equally sicko lefty from the past.

1978? Wow.

Well done.

Keep up the good work.
