Arthur's New York State of Mind

(There is talk of Hillary planning to become Governor of New York, to make up for not being elected President. That puts her on course to run for President again in 2012. Of course, that's hoping that McCain will win in '08. All a diabolical plot? Conspiracy theory? Who knows? Our Chief Political Correspondent Arthur has spent the last two weeks in New York City and gives us this report.)

Hillary Clinton described a colorful event when she visited Bosnia. At first she spoke of running with her head down to the waiting cars to avoid sniper fire. Then someone found a video showing her hugging an eight year old girl and shaking the hands of soldiers, none of whom seemed to be nervous. So she explained that there was no sniper fire, as such, but that the plane made a rapid descent and they had to sit on their flak jackets. Then the pilot of the plane said that was bullshit, the airport is in a valley, he made a rapid descent because you have to. He also said that he was unaware of anyone sitting on their flak jacket other than in one goofy movie. He also said that if the airport were unsafe he sure as hell would not have flown the First Lady and the President's only child into danger. Apparently there is a rule against stupid.

So what does that tell us? It tells us that Hillary Clinton is delusional and dishonest. It reminds me of President Bush saying he "envied" our troops in Afghanistan for the adventure they were having. Hillary Clinton believes that she was in a war movie, just like Ronald Reagan. She is a nutbag. Do you want another nutbag for your President? I don't.

I've just been working in New York City for two weeks. One of the pleasures of New York, when time is tight, is to just hail a cab and go, and worry about the cost later. When you do you are usually being transported by Indians, Pakistanis, Ghanaians, Nigerians and the list goes on. Most people do not talk to cab drivers in New York. They tell them where they want to go and then fire up a cell phone. But if you stop to talk to the drivers, something funny happens. They have a lot to say and appreciate that someone is interested in their point of view. Most of them think Barack Obama is just completely cool. Cross-cultural, up for anything, open to other cultures, and not a complete dick head. To a man they indicated that they badly want him to win. Since I was wearing a suit, tie and overcoat, they were surprised and a bit skeptical to hear that I thought he was and is the Schiznitz. Then they really opened up.

I think this is going to be a historic election. Some people are not going to like the history that will be made, but in its wake, nothing will ever be the same. Millions of young people are adding themselves to the voter rolls in ever state during this Endless Primary. Pundits are wetting themselves in angst over the "plight" of the Democratic Party, as if they cared? They could care less, as long as they can keep their jobs and prattle on endlessly. Pat Buchanan says that Obama is a "black radical" or something equally goofy. Pretty well-dressed for a spear chucker, isn't he? God must have really loved stupid people, considering how many of them she made.

The Clintons will mope for a while and then find meaning again in their tortured lives. No tears need be shed for them.

I'm feeling pretty good about the November election. John McCain has a certain genius for saying stupid things. He thinks the housing collapse is a nice lesson to all those foolish people who bought houses in the last five years. Serves 'em right. That optimism stuff? Not logical.

Anyhow, I think we can count on John "Keating Five" McCain to do and say some memorably stupid things during the campaign. He is a nice enough guy, when he is not having a meltdown, but who needs a President with a short fuse? And while we are on the subject, can anyone tell me how Clinton got the nickname "The Terminator" during her Senate run? No coaching, now...

Arthur
